17 Month Update

We have reached 17 months! I wanted to give you an update on how the girls have been doing. From what they are eating to how they are sleeping I'll fill you in our life lately over here! I still am going to film a video on them, it has just been impossible to do that for some reason! So for now, we'll chat about them here. I also just wanted to say thank you all for the love and support over on my instagram (@withkendra). I read all of your messages and try to respond to most of them. It is so nice to have this huge community of moms and twin moms. You guys are like my support group I swear!

Sleep Schedule:

They have been waking up around 6:30-7:00 and that's been pretty consistent for the past few months. Every now and then they'll sleep a little longer which is always a nice surprise! We bring them to the couch and feed them about 6 oz. of whole milk. I still have been warming up their milk. I know I probably should have them used to cold milk by now, but it's just routine and they like it so I don't want to mess with it. HERE are the sippy cups we use now. They are by Nuby and it took a few days for the girls to get used to them. I ended up taking off the handles and the bottles come with two types of nipples. One is like a normal bottle and the other is a sippy cup type. I also have a few other brands of sippy cups that I need to try out.

Their nap is around 12:30-1:00. They usually sleep for 2.5-3 hours. The other day they slept for 4 hours!! It was insane but they are growing and getting a ton of teeth so a lot's going on in their little bodies. Sometimes they sleep less and that's usually when they are teething really bad. I can tell because they'll wake up with a pain cry and will be biting on their fingers. They get a bottle once they wake up and then one more bottle before bed (both of about 6 oz.). Bedtime lately has been between 7:30 and 8:00.

They are still wearing their zip up sleep blankets at night just for warmth. They don't wear them during naps anymore. But they still love being zipped up in them at night. We will probably stop using them soon because they are growing out of them, but it's become like a security blanket to them. HERE are the ones we use.

Teething:

For teething I've been using the silicone feeder tubes filled with crushed ice. If they are super cranky they won't even take them, but if I can get them to start chewing it, they feel better really fast. You can find those HERE. Camilia drops also help them. I order on Amazon or you can find them at most grocery/drug stores. They'll wake up every now and then from teething. If they do, it's usually a few hours after they go to sleep. Since they practically never wake up in the middle of the night I can usually tell it's from pain in their mouth. Their cry will sound a little different when it's from teething. I'll rock them a little bit and lay them back to bed. They typically will fall asleep pretty quick after that. Sometimes I'll give them one of those camilia drops before laying them back down.

Food:

For snacks, the girls love crackers, string cheese and smoothies. For our smoothies I put in coconut milk, ice, yogurt, frozen spinach and frozen fruit. It just depends what is in our fridge at the time. I just made one for them with peaches, blueberries and spinach and they are loving it. The cups I use are from Target and they are spill proof. You can't pull the straws out which is genius. You can find those HERE. For meals we do eggs with cheese, bread, muffins, ham/turkey, pasta, or fruit/veggies. I'm always trying to come up with meals ideas. Please leave me some of your go-to meals in the comments!! I've also been loving these water cups from Skip Hop. They are little thermos' so they keep the water cold and are pretty durable. Even though it's a straw they don't really spill much because of how it's designed.

Everything else:

They have been loving Bambi! I love it too since it has a lot of classical music and animals. I also like how it's a little more simple than disney movies now. There isn't as much going on. The girls know when every animal comes on the screen and their faces light up when Flower, the little skunk talks. Even though teething makes for some FUSSY toddlers, they have been really cute and fun. They copy everything you say and sing songs all day long. They are getting along a lot better with each other too. Yes, they'll have their moments where they won't share (tantrums are a REAL thing), but for the most part they are inseparable. You'll never find them more than 5 feet away from each other. I love seeing them develop this bond right in front of my eyes. They copy everything the other does and it's so entertaining to watch. Even though they look identical (well to me they look different, but not to everyone else!), they are two separate little girls with their own mannerisms and preferences. They make different facial expressions, have different laughs and like different toys. But they just seem to balance each other out. It's pretty amazing to see.

Overall, life has been so hectic. It seems from the second they wake up it's non-stop until naptime. Luckily naps are a great time to get a lot done and I count on that quiet time! Even though the day-to-day can seem so chaotic, I try my best to create structure in our days. It helps me feel more organized and I get a lot more done that way. I'm also trying to my best to soak everything in. I can't believe they are almost 1 1/2 years old. Time truly does fly by and sometimes I'll catch a glimpse of them and think they look so old!

I hope you all enjoyed the post, and happy belated mother's day to all you moms out there. You are all patient, self-less, motivating and loving people who put your kids first and you should know that you are doing great!
