Kitchen Remodel | Almost Done!

Hey everyone! Today I wanted to share links to everything in our kitchen and a few tips when renovating your kitchen. We have now renovated two kitchens (this is isn’t completely done but pretty much) and we have learned a lot through the process. I hope this post can give you some guidance for your own home!

kitchen renovation tips
  1. Find your inspiration

I love Pinterest for my ideas. It is filled with beautiful photos that bring me so much inspiration. I like to browse through kitchen ideas and start pinning things that catch my eye, then add to a board. After you’ve pinned quite a bit, start scrolling through all your saved photos and look for common themes. Are you pinning all white kitchens? Or rustic elements? Look for a pattern with counters, backsplash and cabinets so you can narrow down what you want to do yourself.

For me, I knew there were specific things I wanted for the kitchen. I wanted a rustic and patterned backsplash, which was the hardest part. The backsplash makes a huge impact especially when it isn’t a solid color. I also knew the shade I wanted the cabinets to be so that helped when seeing what would mesh well together. And then white quartz counters, gold hardware and a wooden mantle chunk on our range hood.

  2. To stay on budget, we would go piece by piece.

We pay everything in cash so we’d save up for the counters, then have that done. Then we would save up for the hardware, and have that installed. For us, going slow is much easier on the budget and also allows us to really take our time in the design process. When some things are done, it makes you look at other elements in a new way. As we were having our counters measured, we realized we could add some length to the island. This changed the layout of our kitchen and it wasn’t what we had originally planned but ended up being the best thing ever.

  3. Be flexible.

Construction takes time. A lot of time. So we had to be patient while living in construction for months with 3 kids but also learn to accept changes. There are so many moving parts and it can be overwhelming. Which is why going back to #2, going slow can help you out. One thing that happened to us was our tile we had planned to use originally ended up costing way more than I had anticipated. I had to find a new one kinda quickly and was stressing over it a ton. Something that could have helped was to have a few options for everything. You never know if something will go out of stock, backordered or out of budget. And when you have things scheduled, it can mess with the timeline.

I’ll have a separate post with final details once complete, but I’m not exactly sure when we will be getting our fridge or have our lights hung up yet!
