Flannel Time

It is finally flannel weather! Well almost. I feel like I’ll wake up to overcast weather and then midday I’ll already be in shorts! Not okay! I wanted to pair some fun new pieces I recently got and put together a classic fall look. I’m currently really into destroyed denim and booties. I guess I’m always into booties, BUT I have been loving the combo lately. And this new camel bag is so nice! It fits a ton of stuff and I’m digging the color. I hope you all enjoy this look!

End of Summer

Happy Monday! I wanted to share a look I wore this past Friday out to dinner with Andrew. This summer has been very long and very hot. Today is the first day I haven’t had to turn the AC on at 9:00 am. It has been brutal to say the least. So considering it was still pretty toasty last Friday, I threw on this maxi dress because 1. it is super comfortable and 2. it is only one thin layer of clothing. I paired it with a pair of studded flats and crossbody bag for an effortless feel. I hope you all have been having a great summer. I am soooo ready for fall. Scented candles, sweaters and hot tea are calling my name!

Paint It White!

Hey guys! So today I wanted to show you the magic of paint. White paint specifically. When we moved into our new home, all the windows were trimmed out, which I definitely think adds a lot of character. However, the trim was a dark stained wood. A little 80’s for my taste. I really want our home to have a very airy and spacious feel, so painting all the trim white was first on my list of to do’s. I headed to Home Depot and picked up some blue tape, paint, and a paint brush and was on my way! And don’t think that you have to be an expert to do this. I did this on my own and I honestly rarely paint anything. The one downside was I didn’t really do…any…sanding to the wood which hurt me in the end. I know I know so dumb. I actually did buy something to sand it, but it was totally the wrong thing. I should have just gotten regular sand paper, but the lady working there recommended something that I found out later was for sanding once you are done painting. Awesome. So I just had to do a lot more coats. It honestly was around 4 coats of paint, which sounds ridiculous to me now, but I didn’t really care at the time. We did buy normal sand paper for the linen cabinets, so I ended up using less paint for those. I’m learning! You will see brown blinds that were on all the windows at first. I took those down as well! I added curtains to the main window, and I’ll add roman shades to the side bay window soon.

What I used:

Behr Swiss Coffee in Eggshell finish for the trim.

Behr Swiss Coffee in Semi Gloss finish for the cabinets.

I have a bunch of pictures in different lighting to give you a better idea of what it looks like. The crazy thing is, everything just blends in now. All the trim matches the baseboards and really opens up the room so much more. Before, you would just stare at the wood trim because it didn’t really match.

BEFOREDURINGKeep in mind, this took me manyyyy hours to finish! The endless coats were super annoying, but I’m so happy with how it turned out!

Ignore the stickers on the windows, we are getting new ones installed in a few weeks, so that will really update the space as well, and keep our house a lot cooler!

CABINETS

For the cabinets, we took them off the hinges and painted them in our garage. We put tape around the hinges while painting, but are considering replacing those. It’s much easier painting the doors with two people so one can hold them while the other paints. Also, we used a cabinet roller, and did detail work with a brush. Once we had two coats on Andrew attached them back on and I added about one more coat with a brush. On the top of the lower cabinet, we added two little pieces of molding we found at Home Depot to make them look more finished. Andrew attached it with glue. See how magical paint can be?

Summer Ready

Hey guys! How have you been? I swear I will start to post on here more often! Believe it or not, I am still organizing stuff. It is endless! But I do love organizing… I have some home updates coming soon for you as well. I did a few home updates on my YouTube channel, but I have some more detailed pictures that I’ll post here next week.

Today I have a super laid back look for you. It has been super hot here lately and I have been living in shorts. I just got this dreamcatcher top, and love the wide cut of it. It makes it really flowy and comfortable. (I’m semi obsessed with graphic tees…) I also love wearing kimonos for hot summer nights. They add a light layer if it’s breezy outside, but allow your skin to still breath.

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops

Hey guys! For those of you who haven’t heard yet, Cover FX just launched a new product call Custom Cover Drops. Basically, they are pure pigments that you mix with any liquid product, to create a custom foundation. Some things you can mix it with are primers, serums, facial oils or moisturizers. The finish that you get depends on what product you mix it with. The same goes for the coverage, the more drops you add, the more coverage you get. I have been loving experimenting with these drops and being my own mixologist. Let me know if you have tried these out yet in the comments! You can watch my video below to see what they look like applied to the skin.

Be Inspired // #8

Inspired

Today’s inspiration board is about working hard to achieve success, whatever you see success as. No matter what you are working toward in life, I think it’s important to have your mind in the right place. For me, working in the social media field, I get overwhelmed really easily. When I see other that are largely ahead of me makes me question what I am doing and discouraged at times. This year I am focusing on silencing the noise of others and working hard no matter what others are doing. Another aspect of success is believing in yourself. If you can get the confidence in yourself, you can do and achieve great things. This morning I sat down at my desk and attempted to tackle my emails. I looked at every unanswered message and told myself I’d get back to it later. I always need the reminder that now is always the best time, not in 30 minutes or tomorrow. Now. Man, I am the best procrastinator. I want to challenge both myself, and all of you, to finish things. I made the simple task of replying to emails look super daunting because of my mind set. Take each item on your list and follow through. There is nothing more satisfying than crossing everything on your list off at the end of the day. Am I right? So I hope we can all work together to get focused and work towards our goals. Take everything one day at time and always remember how far you have come!

Joss & Main Obsession

Hi friends! So Andrew and I just went furniture shopping in Solana Beach. We went into a bunch of stores looking for beds and other furniture items. We are moving into a new place this summer and need to get some new things, so we figured we’d start looking asap. So here’s the deal. A lot of the stores we were in had some great things, but everything was pretty high in price. The headboard we liked was about $800 and it wasn’t even exactly what we wanted. So I remembered about Joss & Main which is a flash sale site for furniture and home decor and pulled it up on my phone. I found a section called custom upholstery and you can basically create your ideal bed for under $500. I put together a little collage of some pieces I am drooling over right now. Let me know if you guys have heard of this website and if you have ordered anything from there. I am planning on getting this bed within the next month and cannot wait!

Valentine’s Day: Date & Outfit Ideas

If you guys need some inspiration for Valentine’s Day, I am here for you! I have put together a casual outfit for you that would be perfect for a daytime date (the video below also has a more dressy look, which you can view HERE). I also wanted to show you some pictures from the spot Andrew and I had lunch. Myrtle Creek is a nursery in Fallbrook, North County San Diego, that offers an adorable lunch. All their food is farm to plate, so you know you are getting fresh ingredients. They also put your food inside a basket that you can take with you around the nursery to find a place to sit down and enjoy it. There are tables scattered throughout, so whether you choose a cafe style table, an upholstered bench, or a picnic table, I can bet you will enjoy your time there!

Marsala Inspo

Marsala is the color of the year for 2015. I have always been a huge fan of shades like this. A warm neutral with a twist is how I see this pinky/red tone. My favorite way to incorporate this color is through makeup. I think this shade compliments so many skin tones. It looks beautiful on the lids, cheeks and lips. I would definitely suggest playing with colors like this on your face one day and see if you like it. Accessories in this shade are also an easy way to switch up your look. It has a little more interest than a tan or brown bag, but still works with so many other colors. Let me know what you would be most likely to pick up in the new marsala shade below!
