12 Month Old Baby Update

Well here we are! I now have a 1 year old! Honestly it’s so bizarre because I feel like Owen is still 6 months old. Maybe it’s the bald head?? And seeing Owen grow out of the baby stage and looking more toddler-like, makes my girls look SO much older! Why does this all have to happen so quickly?

Today I wanted to give a 12 month update of Owie and talk about his first year of life. I hope you enjoy today’s video! And seriously, thank you all for following along this past year. What a year it’s been.

Sleep:

He is going to sleep between 6:30/7 and waking up around 6:00 in the morning. For naps, he goes down 3 hours after waking up and then 3 hours after he wakes up from first nap. Lately he’s been taking a longer 1st nap. They both used to be around 2 hour naps, but lately it is more like 2.5/3 for the morning nap, and 1/1.5 for the afternoon nap.

I felt like I was getting absolutely zero sleep the first 6 months of his life. With the girls we sleep trained at 4 months so from then on it was magic. With Owen, I was nursing longer and still feeding at night until about 5/6 months. It got to the point where I knew he didn’t need to be eating at night anymore and we really needed to sleep train because I was rocking him to sleep for a long time for every nap and before bed. And NOW, I lay him in his crib, close the blinds, turn on the sound machine, walk out of the room and he’s laying down falling asleep. MAGIC I tell you.

Milestones:

He started crawling around 6 months and walking at 8 months. It all happened very fast! He has always wanted to hang out with his sisters and just keep up with them. He is really curious and always determined to get something and go somewhere. Definitely never content with just hanging out. (This makes for very long days!) Our girls used to just sit and play with toys, he never sits to do anything!

He only has 2 (almost 3) teeth! It took a long time for June and Violet’s teeth to come in, but not this long! Also his hair is growing at a snails pace. I always say oh look there it is! And then 2 weeks later it looks the same! But it’s really light blonde right now. And his eyes are less blue now and looking more green every day. The girls have very dark green eyes. Andrew’s are more of a yellow green and mine are light blue.

For words he is saying dada, mom, dog, duck and YUM! He loves to point to everything that he wants saying uh uh uh! He loves to mimic the girls and go AHHHH with his mouth open wide and sticking out his tongue. It’s so cute to see him try to copy what the girls do.

He loves climbing on everything imaginable, playing with dangerous toys, hanging with his sisters, walking around with rackets and balls and playing in water. He sure does keep us on our toes!

Food:

He has been eating anything and everything he can get his hands on! It’s actually crazy because he’ll try to grab whatever snacks the girls have and run away with them. So I really have to watch him since he only has 2 (and a half) teeth right now. He gums things pretty good though. I just break everything up into little pieces.

He loves: bread, bagels, rice, beans, pouches, cereal, yogurt, milk, breakfast bars, pirates booty, mac n cheese, crackers, bananas

Doesn’t like: eggs, plain cheese, normal fruit (he likes it in puree form still), anything slimy, he’s weird with textures

Temperament:

He is pretty mild mannered unless you take something he really wants away. He is happiest outside! Honestly he’ll never cry outside. He is so determined and will do whatever it takes to get what he wants. He is so curious and always looking for something to get into. He’s also pretty quiet and super fast, so you turn away for two seconds and he’s out in the backyard eating dirt.

He loves when he gets a lot of attention. He will try to make everyone laugh by shaking his head or run really fast. He will do this fake laugh and throw his head back that is so precious. He also loves to be held and squeezed tight! But then he’ll want to be free so he can run around.

It’s been a very sweet year with this scrumptious babe.
